Earlier this year I went to meet our member Bernice ( Georges lass ) who had come back to this country after the sad passing of her brother . While I was talking about the site and Wallace’s kind offer of prints for sale on the site her dad GEORGE began showing me photos of old buses he has , as one of Bernice's other brothers KEVIN was a bus enthusiast the photo was this one of a Ribble Motor Services bus in Market Sq ULVERSTON which George kindly gave me . Sorry about the image quality as its a scan
A few months have now past and as you may know we ( The wife & I ) spend a lot of time in Ulverston visiting a relative and I love the quaintness of this special town .
The SIR JOHN BARROW MONUMENT more commonly known as THE HOAD or PEPPERPOT is an icon of the town and is currently the center of a restoration fund project which has been set up to restore it to its former glory,
So I had an Idea, how about a print of the ULVERSTON BUS and offer it to the fund organization . So after discussions with Wallace plans were set . The only problem was fitting the HOAD into the painting and after much searching of the net and appeals on other sites a photo could not be found to produce the painting .
So your intrepid webmaster had to jump on a train (The 7.22am From Accrington ) one Monday morning to arrive at Ulverson at 9.34 and within 10 minutes I had this photo
Then after a quick walk around town and a Bacon butty jumped back on the 11.14 out of Ulverston to get back in OSWALDTWISTLE for 1.35pm and then to bed before my first night shift of the week which started at 10pm that evening
The photo was then e-mailed to WALLACE and now a couple of weeks later this is the fantastic result which shows the HOAD and another Icon of the town a poster showing the latest film from LAUREL & HARDY ---Stan Laurel .was born in the town
This is now on offer to the restoration fund and hoteliers in ULVERSTON to help raise funds to restore the Hoad----As well as also being available to purchase though this site ---in LANCASHIRE PRINTS--- of which more exciting news of another ---MAJOR project will be published soon
And just to think this started with our member GEORGESLASS .
I knew I'd be blamed for it! LOL. I have to say though that the print has evolved into something very special. Wallace has given it such a lovely quaintness and the Laurel & Hardy touch is just genius. Well done John & Wallace, you both did good! Now regarding your next trip to my Dad's place John, he has lots more photo's - you might need a full day's visit and you know he will keep you well fed with bacon butties! LOL.
