Its always good to get your reactions to the little snippets that I place on the site. Its wonderful when a memory gets stirred such as the one in this e-mail I received from our Member JACK EDMONDSON
John:
I listened to the organ music from St James church in Barrow
with very great pleasure: a nice rich tone and skilfully played. My
granparents, Arthur James Hammond and Lydia Elizabeth Smith, were
married there on 31 July 1886. Oddly, perhaps, although I grew up in
Barrow I have never been in the church and, on my very infrequent and
fleeting visits to the town, I have never somehow found the time. I
must really put this at the top of my 'to do'list. Thanks once again
for this opportunity to hear the organ which may have played at my
grandparents' wedding all those many years ago.
Regards
Jack Edmondson
Wonderful Jack . I was a chior boy at the church and also turned the music pages for the Organist and I also rang the church bells which is quite difficult as I remember you must keep you head straight and not look up or the rope lifts you in to the air ----See what happens when you stir a memory.
