penny_for_the_guy    With the clocks going back in the UK we appoarch two dates in the calendar where childhood memories come flooding back the first one is Wednesday the 31st of October  MISCHIEF NIGHT or as it is called these days HALLOWEEN OR TRICK OR TREAT ---Oh for the days of just knocking on doors and running off ,Oh for the days of nicking someones gate but as we get older it becomes a pain when some one rips your wing mirror off your car or eggs your house --Oh for the days off innocence . The other is BOMMY NIGHT the 5th of November which leads me to this question ---When wer the last time you saw somebody GUYING . We used to do it all the time when I wer a lad ,me and my mates BERNIE CUNNINGHAM ,ALAN POSTLETWAITE and TERRY BEWLEY oh yeah and MARK BIBBY --We used to have a pitch outside the old CO-OP in ABBEY ROAD in Barrow .It wer a bit dicey as anyone who remembers it  will tell you it was where thousends of starlings used to roost ...Oh happy days so What did you used to do at this time of year lets us read your memories .I will try and get out with the camera and get some snaps of halloween and bommy night in Lancashire.

Oh I remember the days of Guying John. We would make our guy then put it in our race cart and pull it around asking fer money. Some times it was a penny or two, others it was an attempted thick ear, but they were never fast enough.Good lovely memories. Knock a door run, what's that. Heehee. That wer a bit of fun, what happens these days is just malicious damage.

And here's me thinkin' only Widnesians called it Bommy Night! It doesn't have the same impact now that it goes on for several weeks!
Kids were still doing Penny for the Guy in Wigan when I left in 2004 - usually from the middle of October!(Expecting the first Carol Singers any day now!).
