accy_stanley_shirtI was in Preston the other day ,out shopping with the wife and daughter and wearing my new  Accrington Stanley shirt and minding my own buisness . Its supricesing the reaction you get from just wearing a football shirt  ,comments such as ACCRINGTON STANLEY WHO ARE THEY (old milk add)etc. Then along came a chap who stopped me and asked Where did the name ACCRINGTON STANLEY come from as it was in a pub quiz he was at the other week . So I told him the answer---But do YOU KNOW ?

avatar Stanley Villa was formed in 1891. Took its name from the Pub Stanley Arms, were they were formed. Some of the originators of the club lived on Stanley Road. They used to be called Th'Owd Reds but they folded and the new team Stanley Villa was formed. Then in 1893 the team took the name from the town of Accrington
