After
weeks of waiting the day arrived I had been looking forward to for
ages, meeting JOHN LARGE our member from over in Canada who is over on
holiday and like me a fellow former Barrow in Furness resident.
The
day started off by me thinking I was organised. I had got the address
of the place to meet and printed a map so I would have no problems
finding where I was going.
Off to Accrington train station I walked in
the morning to get my ticket as I thought it would be easier than
mucking about on the train (and anyway they try selling you a dearer
ticket those conductor type people.)
My idea was that I was to meet up with John at 17.00hrs in the Glyn pub
so I thought get the 15.06 from Accy which gets in to Blackpool at
16.00hrs which I thought would give me chance to take a few photographs
for the gallery but as everything else with me at the moment nothing
seems that simple 15.06 hrs arrived to depart my journey to Blackpool
the only trouble was the train didn’t (We are sorry to announce the
service to Blackpool north is running 30 minutes late came a voice over
the station tannoy )Here we go I thought to my self ,so after a little
walk to ease the boredom I waited again for the train .
Finally
we were off arriving at Preston at 16.16 but something wasn’t right
,you see I know trains to Blackpool come in on platform 1 we were on
platform 4,the driver came from his cab “where you going mate “ he
asked Blackpool I replied .Sorry mate we are running that late they
have terminated this one here ,you need to catch the next one in .So
over to platform 1 for the 16.26 only 34 minutes left to meet John . I
must admit this train was on time and I got in to Blackpool at 16 50
and with map printed from my P.C I half ran half walked to meet JOHN
LARGE arriving at the Glyn at 17.03
It was as if we had known each other for years as we talked about
BARROW ,this website and people we knew .ANNA John"s wife is a lovely
lady to talk to and hearing her talk of mushy peas in her Canadian
accent is a joy .It was also a pleasure to chat with there kids I spent
the over 2 hrs with John and his family I could have spent a lot longer
but it was time to leave as I walked back down the prom taking some
photo"s which I will add to the GALLERY over the comming days ,John
will also be adding lots when he returns home to Canada. So it was off
to catch the 20.26 back to Accrington and home at 21.30 with lots of
fond memories .
John
says they may return in September so I have invited him and his family
for a meal including (beef & mushrooms ) just like our old
favorite Chinese restarunts (The Lotus & The Sunlight ) in Barrow
.The day left me thinking this .Isn’t it fantastic when a website can
bring folks together I hope we can remain friends fore a long time JOHN
it was a pleasure to meet you and members it’s a pleasure to be your
