Lancashire memories by David Sisson Print E-mail

lancashire_rose I come from a place where the men wear clogs and a cloth cap that keeps out the cold corduroy pants that take ages to wear and a waistcoat that makes him look bold

I come from a place where the women are grand and a headscarf keeps curlers in place a pinny that covers from neck to knee and a loving smile on every face

I come from a place where the knockerup man rapped on windows to herald the dawn Every day of the week with his stick he would greet except of course on Sabbath morn

I come from a place where the rag and bone man was part of life down our street For a bit of old iron or a bundle of rags He'd give each kid a real treat

And as friendly as ever you'll see It will always be home wherever I roam "Cos Lancashire you'll do for me
