Re-United after 40 odd years Print E-mail
Friday, 29 December 2006
Something happen last night that brought home to me exactly why the internet is so powerful .If you have read the MEET THE WEBMASTER page you will know that as a child I moved with my family from STACKSTEADS to Barrow in Furness that was over 40 years ago . My dad used to work for a company in Bacup called HALLS a fruit and veg merchants owned by a gentleman called TOM BOHEN .I have happy memories of helping dad with his deliveries whilst wearing my short kegs and me CLOGS and have some photos of myself on the back of my dads BEDFORD wagon .In September I posted a message on the BACUP TIMES website www.bacuptimes.co.uk in the hope that somebody may remember my family from our days in the Rossendale valley

Well last night you could have knocked me down wi a feather .I received an e-mail from JUDITH RATCLIFFE  the daughter of the said Mr BOHEN . I will now telephone my Dad with the details of the message and I know he will be as amazed as I was it just goes to show the power of the internet in RE-UNITING people . I e-mailed Judith back last night asking if she would do me the honour of joining LANCASHIRE RE-UNITED and she immediately did so THANK-YOU so much JUDITH you are very welcome I have published the email below and will update you on my dads reactions

Hello John

I was interested to read your details on the Bacuptimes web site. I remember you (just) as a baby as well as your 2 sisters but more interestingly your father Derek (Is he still alive?). I think that somewhere I have a photo of your older sister outside the Church after my wedding. My dad, Tom Bohen owned W. Hall the Wholsale Fruit and Potato Merchants. Your dad was the foreman for several years. When I left school I did the book keeping and wages for a while so I remember your dad very well. My dad really valued him and we all liked him very much as a person. Very hard working too. He and your mum were with my family at a dinner dance at Blackburn on the night when the warehouse in Venture Street set on fire. That would have been in about 1965. Sadly my dad died of Cancer in 1969. He was only 57. From then on the Fruit & Potato trade declined with the growth of the supermarkets.

I have a brother, Haydn who lives in the Preston area. He took over the business on my fathers death. The business changed to Haulage to the Middle East then again changed to manufacturing plastic mouldings and moved to Helmshore and then to Accrington. It's name has changed to W. Hall Group and has been very successful since. My mother died in 1993.

I am married and live in Stokesley North Yorkshire. I have 3 children and 4 grand children.

Where are you and your sisters now?

The Bacup site is so interesting and I shall be spending ages glued to my PC!

All the best for 2007!

Judith

PS I have a friend in Barrow - Rose Priestley. Have you heard of her?
