Hi Andy and welcome to Lancashire Re-united and thanks for taking the time to talk to us
‘No worries, thanks for asking me’
How long have you lived in Lancashire
‘Well, I recently moved back to the area about four years ago, due to work. I was presenting a breakfast show in the midlands, another breakfast show gig came up in Lancaster which was too good to turn down….so I moved. I was there about a year and then moved to a radio station in Preston. The thing is, when you have a regional accent it’s easier to get work on stations that are within your stomping ground. For instance I couldn’t really get a gig in London because of my accent and lack of knowledge of the area, and to be honest I wouldn’t move there anyway…….well I might consider it if it was stupid money……ha, ha, ha!!’
And what do you find you like or dislike about the county
‘One of the things that I missed living down south was the easy access to stunning country side. When I was at Uni in Suffolk that was one of the things I really did miss, don’t get me wrong there was plenty of nice areas to go to….but not those breath taking views that you find here. I’ve got to say there isn’t anything I can think of that I really dislike about the area. There are things that frustrate me, but you get those things wherever you live. Plus I have the added advantage of venting on the radio…..on a regular basis’
Do you have any favourite Lancashire dish (food)
‘I’m going to be really biased and earn brownie points here, I’m going to say that my Grandmas Meat & Potato pie is to quite literally to die for! I know that’s not really a local dish, but it is local to me. She makes the best pastry……melt in the mouth…mmmmmm! God I want some now!’
How long have you been on 107 THE BEE and did you work for any other station
‘107 The Bee launched on the 1st October 2005, and I was lucky enough to be one of the few that was chosen to be part of the daytime line up. So I’ve been with them just over a year now and thoroughly enjoying working here, and that isn’t a hint to the boss for a pay rise…..honest! As I’ve said on the Bee web site, this is a bit of a home coming for me. I grew up on Pleckgate Road, so to be given the opportunity to work on a station near to where I spent my childhood is special. Also because I get to go on about Blackburn Rovers and not tick too many people off. I was the breakfast show presenter on a station in the midlands called Oak 107, bit weird that I should end up back on that frequency eh? Then I went to work for the Bay in Lancaster, again on breakfast. Then most recently I was on Magic 999 in Preston, once again on brekky’
Your afternoon show is really lively have you always been this mad
‘My doctors only let me out Monday to Friday between the hours of 2pm and 6pm, so you’ll have to ask them…….cookoo!’
Where do you get your ideas for the show from
‘Erm, mostly from my small pea sized brain……if I’m honest. I dunno really, I just go through the papers and the internet and find the stories that amuse me, and if they make me laugh hopefully they will make other people laugh. Laughter always encourages laughter, it’s a bit like when you see someone yawn….you instantly want to yawn yourself. There are too many serious things going on in the world, so I try to put a different slant on things’
It’s the run up to Christmas what do you like or dislike about the festive season
‘Oh, don’t get me started on xmas!!! I can’t stand people who insist on making their front windows into santas grotto! I mean, that is just too bloody much, and it’s tacky as hell! I know it’s all for the kids and everything, but I just drive along pointing at the windows saying ‘a chav lives there, chav lives there’! Plus I can’t stand being forced into having family gatherings! Every xmas it’s the same old thing, come and say hello to Auntie Margaret……who the hell is Auntie Margaret anyway! Oh yes it’s that women who we call Auntie Margaret who isn’t actually part of the family, and brings us presents that we gave her last year…the stingy witch!! Plus she’s got a tash, I’m not kissing her!! And relax……I do like the whole xmas morning thing, that’s always good fun. Seeing that special persons face light up as they open their presents in front of you, and then asking if you kept the receipt…….only joking!’
Do you have a special message for the LANCASHIRE RE-UNITED members
‘Just that I’d like to thank them for taking the time reading my mindless drivel, and if they enjoyed it (which is highly unlikely) then you can hear more of the same on your local radio station 107 The Bee. Oh, and stay LOCAL people’
Thanks again Andy is been a Pleasure and keep up the good stuff on 107 THE BEE
‘Thank you, take it easy’
