In 1978 Accrington Stanley were promoted to Cheshire League div 2 in the same year Nottingham Forest won the old first division .On 21 August 2006 the two side met in the Carling cup (formaly known as the league cup .The final score was ACCRINGTON 1 NOTTS FOREST 0 the rise and rise of Stanley goes on and on under the managership of JOHN COLEMAN in 6 short years the team have risen from non league obscurity to national aclaim as the saying goes ----ON STANLEY ON .
