We spent a lovely evening Saturday 11th October with the annual pilgrimage to see the BLACKPOOL LIGHTS . It was a balmy evening just the sort of weather for a good stroll .So after parking the car on CLIFTON RD as we usually do we crossed the road over to the Prom .. Now for the last couple of years the Prom has been one mammoth building site as the town tries to reinvent itself and this section down by the PLEASURE BEACH shows the changes at that end
A walk bit further down the prom and the magic of the see air begins to relax the senses and so we did something we haven't done in ages we took a walk along the the sea front ,The sands of the golden mile looked so inviting as the sun began to set as you can see in this photo .
The Blackpool air was wonderful last night and with the improvements along the prom I feel the towns best attraction will begin to draw people back I used to find that a walk along the prom was an intimidating experience what with Drunken louts swearing as they walk along the overcrowded dirty pavements ---a bit further up and what a difference ---folks taking a relaxing evening stroll on the NEW CLEAN walkway .
I must say what a pleasure this was becoming and then as the sun began to say its last goodbye this photo just had to be taken
So with the setting of the sun anticipation grew at the turning on of the main attraction and the reason for the yearly pilgrimage and I just like the grandkids grew more and more excited then bingo someone flicked the switch
We had now walk for some time and as our grand son noticed the tide was begging to encroach so we decided it was best to find our way back to the prom ,we had been so engrossed by the walk on the sands we couldn't get back though the building site so had to walk some half mile back --which if the sea had been further in could have been a bit dangerous . But once safely back on dry land it was time for the refueling stop at the KFC . Then it was back to reality that I was in Blackpool as drunken YOBS blurted out expletives at the staff in the take away as if to try and impress the scantly clad girls that converge on the resort on hen nights --so after trying to protect our little ones from this infantile behavior it was back on the front for the walk back down and a proper view of the lights
Now you know and I know that when you take kids to Blackpool they EXTERMINATE your WALLET --so after the obligatory ICE CREAM ,DO-NUTS ,ROCK etc we took in more sights and sounds and not forgetting the smells of Blackpool and remembering WALLACE our brilliant artist this shot was taken which is now in Wallace's possession to turn into another PRINT
We had now walked for over 4 hours in the resort and the legs where beginning to pack in . I have to say on the whole I am quite impressed with how the Prom is changing there was certainly a continental feel about the PROM and the Blackpool weather and will be back again next year to see how the renaissance of the prom is going
,There was just one last chance for the CAN I--- CAN I--- CAN I chants to have one last go at the wallet ---and as the little darlings had behaved so well again the lock was taken off for there reward before saying BYE BYE to Blackpool and the SUMMER one last time and the making of more memories for the kids just like we have .
If you have enjoyed these photos I have added a new collection at BLACKPOOL LIGHTS 08 --I hope you enjoy looking at those
I was last in Blackpool in 1994 and loved every minute of it. The food, drink, donkeys, prices (!), entertainment, sore feet are all part of a great day - or weekend if you are lucky enough.
I hope to visit the UK next in a couple of years (before if I win Lotto LOL), and will definitely put up with the English weather just to see the 'luminations. Nothing like it anywhere.
Great fotos - and dialogue John. (didn't even notice the spelling errors I was so enthralled).
