2007 Trip to the UK .
Our flight left Halifax International Airport at 20.15 on Tuesday the 8th of May . My wife Anna and I were taking my son Tom and his girl Christine to meet my folks and to tour around the UK a bit.
We landed at the ridiculous hour of 6am and took the Gatwick express into London Victoria. A taxi took us to Bloomsbury where we found out we could not check in until 12.30 pm.We did store our suitcases and belongings at the hotel and soon we found ourselves out on the streets of London. I took a short stroll to Euston Station and collected all my Train tickets. We had some coffee and a bite to eat and then wandered off to Marylebone St and onto Madame Tussauds. By the time that was over it was time to walk back and check into the hotel. The day lasted forever and we had an early night. The next day we were off early and walked all the way to Leicester Square were I purchased tickets for Les Miserables. , We. did a bus tour and went to the Aquarium also. Great time in London and then on Friday we were off to Blackpool.
I am off to Southport today to meet up with our member from the town CHAS of course with camera in tow .This will be the second time I have met up with someone through this website John Large being the first and we look forward to his photographs and an artical soon as he flew back to Canada yesterday .I would sincerley like to meet up with as many members as possible in the comming months and years and have said whilst on the CHATROOM on Saturday I will next be meeting REDROSE31 aka JACK LONG in about 5 weeks in OLDHAM so maybe in the near future I could meet the WIGAN , BLACKPOOL,PRESTON & BARROW members but if I meet up with the Legend that is SNOWMAN1100 will I make it back to LANCASHIRE or will the pies and the pints get the better of me. Watch this space. As my wife and darling little daughter are workin on Bank Holiday Monday I will be going to take some more snaps in CRAWSHAWBOOTH ,BURNLEY & BLACKBUNRN as well as hopefully adding John Larges dairy of his home visit and more snaps from Liverpool and my visit to see Chas so from your ever busy webmaster see thee in a bit .

Scouse
Scouse is the accent and dialect of English found in the north-western English city of Liverpool and in some adjoining urban areas of Merseyside. The Scouse accent is highly distinctive and sounds wholly different from the accents used in the neighbouring regions of Cheshire and rural Lancashire. Inhabitants of Liverpool are called Liverpudlians, but are more often described by the slang term Scousers.
The word Scouse was originally a variation of lobscouse (probably from the north German sailor's dish Labskaus), the name of a traditional dish of Scouse made with lamb stew mixed with hardtack eaten by sailors. Alternate recipes have included beef and thickened with the gelatin source found in cowheel or pig trotter in addition to various root vegetables. Other sources suggest that "labskaus" is a Norwegian term, and considering the number of Merseyside place-names ending in "-by" (Formby, Kirkby, Greasby, Pensby, Roby), a Viking rather than German source must be considered. Various spellings can still be traced, including "lobscows" from Wales, and some families refer to this stew as "lobby" rather than scouse. The dish was traditionally the fare of the poor people, using the cheapest cuts of meat available, and indeed when no meat at all was available scouse was still made, but this "vegetarian" version was known as "blind scouse".
The roots of the accent can be traced back to the large numbers of immigrants into the Liverpool area in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries including those from the Isle of Man, Scotland and, most importantly, Ireland. The influence of these different speech patterns became apparent in Liverpool, distinguishing the accent of its people from those of the surrounding Lancashire and Cheshire areas. It is only recently that Scouse has been treated as a cohesive accent/dialect; for many years, Liverpool was simply seen as a melting pot of different accents with no one to call its own. The Survey of English Dialects ignored Liverpool completely, and the dialect researcher Ellis said that Liverpool [and Birkenhead] had "no dialect proper".
