When I went back.
I left Barrow in Furness in June 1974 to look for work and adventure in Canada .I settled in Halifax Nova Scotia and after a year I married my wife of now 32 years, Anna. I decided to take her to Barrow to meet my folks and in December 1975 we spent Christmas in my home town.
Some members have pointed out that there was a problem answering the questions on the NEWLY LAUNCHED site survey . The problems have now been ironed out so I would ask ALL members to please fill it in as the softwere has only 12 days left to run .I do value your veiws and will act on what you say as one member has already asked for a SUDOKU puzzle that updates with a new one each day .You will find the SURVEY in the MEMBERS FEATURES AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE .Just click on the link and answer the questions
Its been a beautiful day in Lancashire today with lots of sunshine and clear blue skys .So this morning I washed the car (something which hasn’t been done for ages) and then to make the most of the day me and the wife went for a drive .Now as you will know Lancashire has some stunning views and I have now found some more .Off what we call the GRANE RD nr Blackburn is JACKSON HEIGHTS ROAD which leads to the village of EDGEWORTH nr Bolton .There are some fantastic views of Lancashire be had up there .I have lived down in this part of Lancashire for many years and it still throws up the odd surprise .Another one turned up by visiting the JUMBLES COUNTRY PARK nr TURTON(pictured) .Lots of people where out like us enjoying the strange yellow thing in the sky .We walked for miles around the reservoir as if we were up the lakes and then drove through East Lancashire to Simonstone to book a meal next weekend when we will be visited by a relation from ULVERSTON so I will update the site when I can next week and the weekend after your webmaster will be in Ulverston with my wife. It has been a perfect weekend and the next two will be just as good , see you soon .
On Saturday evening I thought I would just have a quick peak at the site to see who was online .To my delight we had a new member ADELA EARNSHAW .Now before anyone asks ,no we are not related (well I dont think so ) .Adele lives in BLACKPOOL and I think is our first member from the resort WELCOME ADELE to our little family and also ART from PRESTON and DEBBIE EDWARDS who joined on Sunday 15/01/07 after hearing about our site on Stu"s show on 107 THE BEE .One thing I have noticed is that out of the last 10 new members 9 are LADIES so COME ON LADS even things up .
In the second of the series we take a look at the mad cap FREDDIE GARRITY .Freddie was a favorite of mind with his manic moves and fun sound .Sadly Fred died resentley but left us with happy memories
Although I sometimes like others get tried by the stresses and strains of a hard day or week at work we tend to forget about the mem who worked the LANCASHIRE coal pits .These mem worked long hours in dangerous conditions and many lost there lives in mining desasters .I have found out that POEM"S where written of the mining days and feature one here called BANDS & BANNERS
THIS WAS PUT ON OUR GUESTPAGES FROM OUR NEWEST MEMBER LESLEY LETS SEE IF WE OR ANYBODY YOU KNOW CAN HELP
Hi everyone. I am a regular on the southlakes website as I spent most of my childhood in barrow. I now live in Essex, and, have identical twin girls of 30 who by the way found there way back to Barrow and married barovians, plus 5 lovely grandaughters. I would be grateful if anyone can help me find my brother whom I have not seen for many years as he worked around the world from 1986 onwards. I believe he is now in Warrington and has resided there for the last 5 years. If anyone is from that way and knows of him I would be grateful. His name is Danny Byrne and he would be in his late forties now. Great Site.
Yesterday (Saturday) was yet another fantastic day for the site ,your reaction to the revamp is much appreciated as is the fact we gained 4 more members who we welcome to our little family .One point I have to keep making though is that when anybody joins the site PLEASE USE YOUR FULL NAME (REAL NAME) as your username as the monitoring system that we have on this site will lock on to any suspect names and they may be deleted ..
One new member we have onboard is BILL CLARK who I am really pleased to WELCOME .Bill is the webmaster of the south lakes website www.southlakes-uk.co.uk and a presenter on ABBEY FM (weekdays 10pm-2am) www.abbeyfm.co.uk in Barrow who has been and is a great friend to this site and recently did a reveiw of this site on his radio show which can be found in the website news (OUR WEBSITE ON ABBEY FM) pages on this site .The members only chatroom was in full flow with members in Canada talking to folk in New Zealand (Int technoligy brilliant) so lets see what we can get up to today
