I went up to Barrow again yesterday and took around 85 photos which I have sifted though and added the best 45 to the gallery which our FURNESS folks can find between pages 3-6 on the BARROW IN FURNESS files this is the last time Barrow will feature for a while ---- I have lots of fond memories of the town which is now again changing as I am sure or ex Barrow folks will see but I still love the place to bits and I urge anyone who has never been to this part of the world to do so . OK thats that I am off now to add 50 BLACKBURN photos to the GALLERY

My daughter has just started driving lessons which got me thinking of the days I started driving .My lass forks out £21 for one hours lesson mine were £6 per hour with a chap called Brian Flemming in Barrow .I remember my first test and failing becuse so the examiner (Failer Finley ) as he was known said I hesitated at junctions but as an ex-biker I was waiting just in case some body on a bike went over the bonnet (I know what it feels like ) and Jimmy Saville used to say "think once think twice think bike ". Any how my second test was at 3.45 pm on a Friday in Decemeber 1981 Which I recall Brian telling me before we arrived at the test center trust me you"ll pass, why was he so sure I thought to my self .
Off I set with the examiner and after 45 mins was back at the test center and I had passed .My instuctor said to me that yes your driving is up to standard but think about it Vickers shipyard comes out at 4.30 and he wouldnt want to get stuck in that lot .He had a way of making you feel good did Brian Flemming . Do you have any memories of your Driving lessons or your test day .?
I had to go into town in Accrington this morning but had found out a couple of days ago in our local rag that our local bus service was uder going a (re-brand) name chage on the ACCRINGTON-BLACKBURN CIRCULAR the name LANCASHIRE UNITED will no longer be emblasened on the buses the new service as pictured is called SPOT ON .Why it is called this I do not know it just seems that another part of our LANCASHIRE identerty is as of Monday being lost .

I have today come across this video of a drive around BLACKBURN .It just goes to show how places change ,at the start of this film is the FRECKLETON ST BRIDGE it was demolished 6 weeks ago to make way for a new one which will be completed for next year
A Happy Easter from your webmaster .Over the course of the next few days many folks will be consumming vast amounts of chocolate eggs and hopefully on Sunday EGGROLLING .I remember as small children we would hard boil our eggs and paint them in bright colours before rolling them down the hill at the AMPITHERATER at FURNESS ABBEY the object being to see whose egg could go the furthest with out disintigrating .I will have to take the grandkids to HOLCOMBE on Sunday as I know the tradition is carried on there WHERE DO / DID YOU DO YOUR EGG ROLLING
