Sunday, 04 November 2007

2007_1105bllackpoolights0022 I had a lovely night in Blackpool on Saturday night .Firstly I popped to Poulton to meet Bernice's dad George and drop off his LANCASTRIAN & PROUD polo shirt and the 3 books Bernice won in our competition and also meet brother Ian aka Willowbank. I must say we all had a loverly chat for 15 minutes it was so good to meet you .As I said to you George have a pleasant flight out to AUSTRIALIA  and I will see you on your return to Lancashire in February and we will go down memory lane  .Then it was on to Blackpool and a stroll down the promenade to film this years illuminations and I even took some film of some Blackpool chips with lashings of salt and vinegar  to make you feel as if you were there .   Anyway the video footage seems to have come out OK as do the photos ( Which I have now added to the PHOTO GALLERY) ,there is so much video footage  to upload this will take until tomorrow evening (Monday) to add to the sites VIDEO VAULT but a taster is captured above . Well the lights are over for another year and Blackpool as a resort  closes down until next Easter , a tram conductor summed it up when he said to  a group of  passengers MERRY XMAS FOLKS I AM ON THE DOLE ON MONDAY  typical Lancashire lad . Anyway I  will now clear off  and try and sort this video out---( ---Oh and Bernice look out for a SPECIAL message from a bloke that looks like your Dad and don't forget --(PUT YOUR CORNFLAKES DOWN )---Before I go Does anybody have any REG DIXON  WURLITZER  MUSIC  if so please could you send me an MP3 download to lancashirereunited@fsmail.net.

Seeing as it is Bonfire Weekend in the UK have a look at this video of the UKs entry in the WORLD FIREWORKS CHAMPIONSHIPS which were recently held in BLACKPOOL

penny_for_the_guy    With the clocks going back in the UK we appoarch two dates in the calendar where childhood memories come flooding back the first one is Wednesday the 31st of October  MISCHIEF NIGHT or as it is called these days HALLOWEEN OR TRICK OR TREAT ---Oh for the days of just knocking on doors and running off ,Oh for the days of nicking someones gate but as we get older it becomes a pain when some one rips your wing mirror off your car or eggs your house --Oh for the days off innocence . The other is BOMMY NIGHT the 5th of November which leads me to this question ---When wer the last time you saw somebody GUYING . We used to do it all the time when I wer a lad ,me and my mates BERNIE CUNNINGHAM ,ALAN POSTLETWAITE and TERRY BEWLEY oh yeah and MARK BIBBY --We used to have a pitch outside the old CO-OP in ABBEY ROAD in Barrow .It wer a bit dicey as anyone who remembers it  will tell you it was where thousends of starlings used to roost ...Oh happy days so What did you used to do at this time of year lets us read your memories .I will try and get out with the camera and get some snaps of halloween and bommy night in Lancashire.

tesco_accy We all know that as we get older the places where we live or used to live change in particular our town centers . you and I will remember shop you used to go into and the people that worked in them .Well town planners and the big supermarkets are now on the out skirts of our towns taking away the busy streets we used to know . In Accrington TESCO want to build a NEW store on Eagle St just off the town Center  ( artists picture shown ) WHY because LANCASHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL are planning to build a bus interchance at the train station so what do you think will happen ACCY TOWN CENTER WILL DIE . What do you think ,has the same thing happened in your Town , Do you think it matters ,and what shops do you remember from the old days . Do you remember the old record booths or any particular COFFEE BARS  or toy shops let us know .via the contact us button the best memories will be published

I would think that every beauty spot around Lancashire be it coast of wood or Park would have seen scenes like this back then . Now you only get crowds like this in Superstores on a Sunday -------Whats gone wrong ? Where would you have gone with your family on a Sunday in days gone by.

My Lancashire Family --By Sheila Bird Print E-mail

No matter where in the world you are, when you hear the Lancashire accent you know there is going to be a sincere, warm Lancashire welcome and a friend made forever and my trip back to my home town of Accrington in Lancashire was no exception. I was bringing my 84 year old dad back home to his beloved Lancashire to meet all his friends and family again after 12 years and what a wonderful welcome we got. I was a little apprehensive, as it?s a long way from Kent and dad is not as fit as he once was but I had no need to worry, he was a changed man. They say you should never go back, never try to turn back the hands of time, don?t believe ?them? we did turn back the hands of time, if only for a brief moment. Dad was a kid again, remembering playing Robin Hood in the fields where he was born in Hapton with Robert Worrell, his school friend from over 70 years ago and who we both had the privilege to talk to via a web link to Canada his daughter Valerie and I set up for them ,just before Robert died. He showed me the house he was born in, where his grandmother lived and so much more. I am truly blessed to have such a wonderful man for a dad.
