Can you put names to these faces 2008/12/03 20:30
This is the first time I have added a thread so sorry if I get it wrong but here goes.

The attached photo is of my father Tom Evans first row standing wearing mac, holding beer bottle, black shirt white tie and his brother Billy Evans front row crouching wearing glasses. Despite the newpaper saying it was in the 50's we are sure that it was 1936 to 1938 era. Its a coach outing from Vickers Armstrong Barrow to (Where I dont know) by Grange Motors which left from outside the Bank in Ramsden Square. The only name I have is George Lees junior second left. Can anyone put any more names to faces?

The Headline says "Pals ready to sample some luxury coach travel"

Cant see the coach but I dont expect it was too luxurious in the 30's!!! If you want a better quality photo let me know

Doris - Thanks for the reply - From memory I dont think there was a June Evans in his family but families were so large in those days one of them could be a family member.

It would be good to get the "Island Lass" to look at the photo and see if she knows any of the boys - if you know her details / email etc could you just drop her a quick message for me and ask her to have a look, it would be fantastic to find an Evans family member who came from Barrow Island. Do you know if this was her maiden name or was she married to an Evans?

Since I joined a few days ago I have realy been enjoying this site - you have a great crowd of members! Also been enjoying Abbey Radio - its good to hear bits and pieces on old Barrow.

On a personal note I have just had a call from my son Tom, whos wife has just had her second scan (Baby due in April)and its a girl!!! Hope to post a few pictures in the spring.

Look forward to speaking to you again.

Tom

Thanks John - My sister and I have mangaed to get back a few generations on the Evans side of the family but we have not come across a David yet although we still have many gaps to fill so if you can throw any more light on this guy I will have a probe around and see if there are any connections - any idea of birthdate/year and I assume he was born in Barrow?

As you see Doris has come up with a few Evans clan - so there are obviously a lot of them up your way - the search goes on!

Interesting about your comments on the Cook Street Evans's as this is only a few streets away from Raleigh Street where I know he was living in 1934 as I have his indetures from Vickers which he and his father signed before he started his apprenticeship as living at 7 Raleigh Street 29th October 1934. Families do have the tendancy to stick close to the same areas so this could be a HIT!

I would love to know more, if you are able to find out anything it would be a great help - His parents were Joseph and Ada - Children (but dont know how many still at home in 1934 - Elizabeth, Mable, Eadie, Tom (Father) Billy and Albert Up to and including my father all born I think in 6b Ship Street and moved to Raleigh Street (date Unknown) but as I say I know he was there in 1934.

Thanks for the response "Medy" and look forward to hearing from you.

What a great photo Evo. Wouldn't it be great if somebody in that photo could tell us a bit more. I am guessing if it was about 1934 that most of the fellas would now be in their late 80's or even 90's??

They are all looking very dapper in their Sunday best I think.

You are right Sheelagh - if only pictures could talk!

I suspect it was a day out to somewhere like Blackpool and I should think a few beers were consumed that day - wonder how many woke up with a hangover?

Thanks for the response Sheelagh and watch this space as I am sure someone will be able to name a few faces its just a matter of time.
