Membership applications 2008/07/13 07:31
I received an e-mail from a gent the other day saying that he felt the application to join the site was somewhat intrusive . I would like to know what those of you who joined recently thought about the questions . The reason for some of the questions asked is because last year a heck of a lot of time and effort went into restoring the site after a massive hacking of Lancashire Re-United and subsequent restoring of the site and tightening of security which is the reason for some of the details about prospective members . Everything is and will continue to be done to protect the site its files and our members from this ever happening again .

I think the questions are fine and I don't see anywhere that says all questions are to be answered! Some of our members have not filled in the application answers fully and others not at all. The profiles are an aid to get to know people better and very useful to new members.

I think the questions must have been quite reasonable, I didn't have any problems filling them in.

This privacy thing just like political correctness is going too far. A few years ago my late Mother lived in a computer monitored retirement home, if she didn't follow roughly her normal pattern of moving about an alarm would be sent to the warden who would call her up to see if she was OK and hadn't fallen or something. One day a $!##* B!tc# approached me offering to help get rid of the computer because it was an invasion of privacy. My Mother was delighted with the system, it made her feel secure.

I have no problem with the questions .

Its a good way for others to know something of your background and genuinly interested in joining LRU.

Hi John, is that the first one that's mentioned this to you? I would think so. There is always one that has reason to find fault and find issues where they don't exist. Heck - you wouldn't want members like that anyway and my guess is that this whinger isn't even a lancashire lad - probably a southerner LOL. I would say just forget it - there is nothing intrusive in your questions - now if you were asking for bank details and residential addresses he may have reason to question it.

There were a couple of questions that asked for addresses and phone numbers I didn't realize were on the form to join the site .
These have now been removed and I apologize whole heartedly for them being there in the first place
