If Coronation street gets taken off here, folk stay away from me, I'm cramd as heck. Then they put an extra one on and I'm in heaven. Good excuse for a pint tho eh? Phil.

Hi, Oooh, a chance to rant!!!!
Well, one of the things that somehow has become common here on TV: people keep saying the same thing twice - sort of like a double negative, if you will. Some of the phrases I've heard:
'The animal was returned back to the wild.' 'This place is going to need re-renovating out.' 'You'll have to reverse the car back.' 'You'll want to repaint over this spot again.'
In all these situations, there had been no previous action - IE, the car had not yet been reversed, and the person had not already painted the spot. The word 'back' after 'returned' isn't necessary, and the renovating that was being done in the decorating show was being done on a home that had not been previously renovated.
I can't think of any more right now, but after being taught in school not to use too many words in a sentence, I'm wondering where that ruling has now disappeared to!
Don't get me started on the apostrophe!

It annoys me when I hear "the Prime Minister SEZ" on the news.

What about having to listen to someone's mobile phone conversation on public transport or anywhere else for that matter?? Do people realise we don't want to know about their hernia operation at 7 in the morning??

It's illustrated with a puzzle. A square box contains a number of dots, the challenge is to join up the dots with just two straight intersecting lines. The only way that you can do it is to have the lines intersecting outside the box.

Our phone boxes have large sheets of re-enforced glass but that doesn't stop them getting smashed, it happened frequently to one on the main road outside our village. One day I was walking along when a large truck went by, as it passed the phone box the slipstream from the truck shook the phone box and shattered the glass. I did tell the phone company but couldn't make them understand. The person that I was talking to said "did you get the registration number of the truck that threw something at the phone box", I spent some time trying to explain what had happened but in the end just hung up. Several incidents of smashed glass later they did replace the glass with a metal mesh.
