hello all, I can't think of a more subjective thing than a taste competition, but for my two penn'orth McLey's in Bath St, Barrow, makes the best pie. I do enjoy Thomas's, and one or two others, when I'm out and about, but true to my Hindpool roots I love nothing better than popping round the corner for two of Johnny Mutton's finest. Any old school Barrovians may remember Wootton's (Where Sheng's in now on Ainslie St) butchers, they had a stall on the market too. Fantastic pies and memories, sadly missed.

I would give my vote to Glover´s Bakery, based in Bamber Bridge. Their Butter Pie is absolutely gorgeous and is one of the ´must have´s´ when I do a flying visit to Lancashire from my home in Mallorca. See their website www.gloversbakery.co.uk for locations of their shops. I also stumbled across some interesting pie history - the Butter Pie is really only found in the Preston, South Ribble and Chorley area. It seems that it was invented to cater for the Roman Catholic community in those areas who needed a meat free pie to consume on Fridays!

I remember butter pies well, my former sister in law lives in Preston, really tasty pie and excellent with parched peas off the flag market! Happy Days......are parched peas sold anywhere else folks?

I was out in Bolton yesterday, in the market, just happened to look into the glass counter to see some pies that had mushy peas in them. I dont know what else was in them and didnt have time to ask. I may get one next time and get my hubby to try it out. lol

I had two favs. they were Frys Meat and tatty. and Ashcrofts big Pork pie. They were in Barrow Island and Barrow in Furness respectively. Ashcrofts was on Forshaw street.Good luck to the winner and I bet every pie mentioned is a winner.
